About the speaker

Dr. Amy Jo Dowd is an international development scholar and practitioner focused on early childhood education and literacy. She built and led a team of 11 researchers at Save the Children, focusing on using evidence-based tools to help all children learn essential skills. The Literacy Boost program, now used in many countries with help from communities and governments, changed how Save the Children and World Vision use data to help families and children succeed. Building on this success, Dr. Dowd and her team created and expanded programs for math, preschool education, and a global early learning assessment. She later joined the LEGO Foundation, leading a team of 17 experts to strengthen research, manage $10M for COVID-19 distance learning in 2020, and improve project management. She is currently an independent consultant continuing to promote evidence use in ensuring learning at scale with equity. Dr. Dowd is a graduate of Stanford and Harvard’s Graduate Schools of Education.

This Signature Program Speaker Series is co-sponsored by the International Studies Program and Mroz Global Leadership Institute. This event is free and open to students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
